The Hiss might be contained, but the hype train has just breached containment.
The Game Awards are nearly upon us, and the speculation machine is working overtime. Fresh off the Death Stranding 2 PC leak, Remedy Entertainment has thrown another explosive revelation into the mix.
MP1st has uncovered a European trademark filing for “CONTROL Resonant” and the details are absolutely fascinating. The filing spans video game services, promotional activities, and notably, television and film production. The cherry on top? It was submitted through Nordia Attorneys at Law, Remedy’s go-to legal representation. This isn’t speculation it’s official.
Is This Control 2 or Something Else?
Control 2’s existence isn’t news. The sequel hit full production status in February, with industry experts forecasting a 2027 launch window an eternity in gaming years.
The burning question: does “Resonant” serve as the sequel’s official subtitle? While Remedy typically favors numerical sequels (see: Alan Wake 2), they’ve embraced subtitles before Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne and American Nightmare prove that point. Thematically, “Resonant” aligns beautifully with Control’s universe. The Oldest House thrives on resonance, frequency manipulation, and interdimensional vibrations.
However, there’s an alternative explanation. Remedy’s partnership with Annapurna for screen adaptations remains very much alive. The trademark explicitly includes “production of entertainment in the form of TV series and cinematographic films.” Could this be branding for Control’s television or film adaptation instead?
The Game Awards Theory
The timing couldn’t be more suspicious. Geoff Keighley’s annual spectacle provides the ideal stage for major announcements.
Picture this scenario: Remedy unveils the highly-anticipated Max Payne 1+2 Remake, then drops a surprise “One More Thing” moment featuring Control: Resonant. Game or show, either revelation would send the audience into a frenzy.
My prediction? This is the sequel’s official title. While Control 2 works perfectly fine, Control: Resonant promises the psychologically twisted, reality-bending experience we’re craving.
Whatever Remedy has planned, mark December 11th on your calendar. The Board demands your attention.
